CNC Turning Work on the Outside of the Inside Jaws

The outside of the inside (drill) jaws are useful for turning larger diameter work that is too large to fit inside the drill jaws. This will most often be in the form of a flywheel casting. Flywheels with six spokes are ideal for turning in a three-jaw chuck as the spokes can fit between the chuck jaws. Ideally you need to tighten up the flywheel until it is tight, but not so tight as to distort the rim.

Turning a step on a bar using the stop. The bar is held in the three-jaw chuck and supported with the tailstock centre.
