The CNC machining center is often divided into vertical machining center and horizontal machining center according to the main axis in the space. The spindle of the machining center is vertical in the space, which is called vertical machining center, and the spindle is horizontal in the space, which is called horizontal machining center. The spindle can be changed vertically and horizontally. It is called vertical horizontal machining center or five face machining center, also called compound machining center. According to the number of columns in the machining center, there are single column type and double column type (Long men type).
 
According to the number of moving coordinates of the machining center and the number of coordinates controlled at the same time, there are three axes, two linkage, three axis three linkage, four axis three linkage, five axis four linkage, six axis five linkage and so on. The three axis and the four axis are the number of moving coordinates that the machining center has. The linkage refers to the control system that can control the coordinate number of the motion at the same time, so as to realize the position and speed control of the tool relative to the work piece.
 
According to the quantity and function of the worktable, there are single worktable processing center, double worktable machining center and multi worktable machining center.
 
According to machining accuracy, there are common machining centers and high precision machining centers. The machining center has a resolution of 1 m, a maximum feed speed of 15 to 25m/min, and a positioning accuracy of l0 m. The high precision machining center has a resolution of 0.1 M, the maximum feed speed is 15 to 100m/min, and the positioning accuracy is about 2 m. Between 2 and l0 m, more than 5 m can be called precision grade.
