The simplest and quickest way to clamp small parts made of metal, brass, or other hard materials is to use a machine vise, which can save a lot of fumbling around with clamps and blocks. A vise is only effective when used with workpieces that have parallel sides, and it has to be firmly fixed in place on the machine table.
